A weekend away, Top Gear & Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day!

My husband and I have just had a lovely weekend away. It is the first weekend we have had all to ourselves since our 2nd son was born, and he is over 2yo now! Actually it's the first time our 2yo has had a sleepover! Thanks Nanna & Granddad!

We headed to the airport early Saturday morning, having checked in online the night before which turned out to be a great time saver for us at the airport. When we arrived in Sydney we went to the Travelodge Hotel on Wentworth Ave, it wasn't flashy but was clean and comfortable which is all we needed. It was in a great spot, within walking distance to Central Station and also the CBD and Hyde Park. As it's Chinese New Year there was a lot happening and it was lovely to walk around amongst the festivities.

Then we went to the Acer Arena for Top Gear Live. I had given my husband tickets for Christmas, and it was definitely worth every cent. As well as the show, there was the Top Gear Festival, which was held outside the Arena entrance. Hubby tried his luck in the Pit Stop Challenge to get the top time for changing the wheel of a Formula Ford race car and for the top time on the Harley drag simulator. Even I got in on the action and tried my luck on getting the fastest slot car time but unfortunately I crashed, causing hubby to lose the race too, oops!

Today we spent some time walking around Circular Quay, taking in the sights of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, then for a wander around The Rocks Markets, and came across the most fabulous shop called The Puppet Shop. The shop is almost hidden down a flight of stairs and it's like walking around inside a cave. There were hundreds of marionette puppets. I have wanted to get one of these type of puppets as a keep sake toy for my kids for a long time, though haven't been able to find any I like that don't cost a fortune, but here they were, lovely and well priced, so we bought one for each of the boys, but they will be put away until it's their birthdays. If you are ever in Sydney this shop is worth a visit.

We then hopped on a ferry across to Darling Harbour where we had some lunch, before heading to the airport in the afternoon for the journey home.
